Section Three : The
History of Jack-Nair Heights. Chapter One Where In The World Is Jack-Nair Heights ? By: Victor Scardella |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
The
Jack-Nair Heights area consists of Jacklyn Drive, McNair Drive, Senga
Drive and the south end of Fisher Road in The Town of Chili; suburb of
Rochester, NY. From the mid 1960's to the end of the 70's, we lived on Jacklyn Drive. I remember moving there from the inner city of Rochester, NY as a seven (7) year old boy in 1966. It was all new to me, having a nice yard with grass and trees. And also having lots to explore, as our house was right on the edge of a wooded area. A small forest and fields would become my playground. As I would venture out further, I would find a swamp down at the end of our street. It would become another type of playground later on, where I would catch Polly Woggs and frogs and would try to ice skate and play ice hockey. The two streets, Jacklyn Drive & McNair Drive, were connected by three (3) other streets : the first street and main road was Fisher Road; which went all the way from Behan Road at the south end to Chili Avenue at the north end. A mile and a half from one end to the other. Chili Ave. being the major road that led into the city of Rochester, NY, if you headed east. The second street was Senga Drive, a little street that only connected Jacklyn and McNair Drives and we used it to play softball and ride our bikes on. The third street was nothing more than a gravel road that connected the two housing streets and it was located up by the swamp. |
