The Frito Lay Gang
Rides Again ! As we got to be young teenagers or at least was approaching our teenage years, we began to explore out past our little neighborhood. We ventured down to the railroad tracks and on down the tracks toward Behan Rd. Going East from Fisher Rd. We saw old railroad cars of deferent types sitting on a side rail that was not being used. There were coal cars, flatbed cars, box cars and some other misc cars. We decided to make our fort in one of the box cars and it was a nice place to get away from the grownups for a while. We also explored all that was alongside the rail road tracks as well. We found some old equipment that was all broke down. We enjoyed playing on and in that old equipment. We pretended we were doing construction work. There was a crane and old excavating equipment there. We also found out that one building was being used by Frito Lay Company, makers of Fritos, Cheetos and lots of other goodies to eat. We found out that the trucks would go out to the stores with all the fresh products and bring back all the out dated products. They had a dumpster out back that they used to discard all the out dated products. So, we decided to go down to the dumpster since it and the building was down a hillside from the rail road tracks. We went down to the dumpster and grabbed all the products that we could carry and run back up the hillside to the rail road tracks and over to the box car that we were using as a fort. We found out that Frito Lay makes all kinds of snacks and there was a large variety of chips and other snacks. They make filled crackers and cookies and even brownies as well. So, we had quite an assortment and ended up with a large haul of goodies. I remember eating so many kinds of chips that my tongue got sore from all the salt !! We got braver and braver as time went on and even went down while there were men inside the building working. We tried to be quiet but, one time they heard us and came out to see what was going on. They saw us going through the dumpster and yelled at us to get out of there ! We took off running up the hillside and down the tracks to get away from them ! We ended up just waiting till they went home at the end of the day and then went down to raid the dumpster. One time, we were in the box car fort and decided (just for the heck of it) to see if Cheetos and Fritos (and such) would burn. So, we made a pile in the middle of the box car floor of bags chips and Cheetos Puffs and lit it on fire. We found out that they burned all right but, made lots of smoke too !! So, we decided that we needed to extinguish the fire because we were afraid that someone might see all the smoke and call the fire dept and we would get into trouble. We did not have any water or fire extinguishers. So, we had to improvise ! We were a bunch of guys and thought we could play firemen with a different kind of hose ! We all stood around the pile of burning and smoking Cheetos and chips and used our own personal hoses to put out the fire. Yes, you guessed it, we peed on the fire ! The smoke made our eyes water as we all were standing around the pile, peeing on the fire. It was a time I will never forget and enjoy sharing with you here. |
