My Teenage Nervous Breakdown By: Victor Scardella |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Read : "The Ring Of Fire" first ! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
After the Ring Of Fire incident, I was still very distraught and confused. I was convinced that my electric car idea was the God given answer to the energy crisis problem and that I was God's messenger to carry that idea to President Nixon in Washington, D.C. Because I believed that I was God's messenger, that made me like a second Jesus Christ kind of Saviour. So, I decided to pack up my stuff and head toward Washington, D.C. to present my idea of the electric car to President Nixon. It was a very cold, winter night when I packed up and headed out on foot. My parents had no idea what I was planning and they were sound asleep in the middle of the night when I headed out on foot. I walked about 5 to 10 miles south / southeast when a Monroe county deputy sheriff spotted me walking along that long, cold road and stopped to see what I was doing. He picked me up, talked to me and took me home. He made sure my parents woke up to answer the door. He then made sure that he explained to them what I was doing. After talking with my parents, he then left and my parents spent some time talking with me to try to understand what was going on in my head. My parents decided to keep me home from school and take me somewhere to get some professional help for me. In the morning, my parents took me to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. There at Strong Memorial Hospital, I talked with a Psychiatrist for a while and they decided to keep me there for a while. I ended up locked in the psych ward of Strong Memorial Hospital for about three (3) months. The doctors there tried several different medications on me to try to get my mind straightened out. I also had lots of counseling sessions too ! I finally did get my mind straight and also experienced some other interesting things while I was there in the psych ward. I will share those other interesting experiences with you later on. I also had made up my mind that religion had played a large roll in my getting so confused, so, I decided to cancel my belief in God and discontinue any and all religious activities. My mother and step father did not claim any religious affiliation nor did they encourage me to attend any type of church. I was free to believe anything that I wanted. During the time that the doctors were experimenting on me with all the different kinds of medications, I found out that I was allergic to Lithium. Another medication related incident was that time that they over medicated me and I almost over dosed ! I was in my room asleep in bed when I heard my name being called over the loud intercom system. I was being called to go up to the nurses station to (ironically ) get my next dose of medication. So, I got up out of bed and stumbled out into the hallway. I began to stumble down the hall toward the nurses station when I fell in the hallway but, was able to get back to my feet somehow. When I finally reached the nurses station, it was (in those days) surrounded by glass from the 3 foot walls that started at the floor and went up 3 feet to where the glass started and the glass continued up to the ceiling. I tried to speak to let the nurses there know that I was standing there but, all I could do was to collapse on the floor but, not before hitting my head on the glass wall first. I woke up back in my room in bed with all the doctors and nurses standing over me taking my vitals etc?. I said to them that I thought it was a strange dream and could I have some more of what ever that was that caused that very interesting situation. They of course said no and that they would probably want to reduce the dosage of that particular medication. I also believe that was the first time I had ever experienced being "HIGH" in any way, shape or form. And that may also have been the catalyst in getting me started on desiring alcohol or drugs like marijuana later on in my teen age years. |
